লেখক Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj al-Naysaburi
Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj al-Naysaburi (d. 875 CE / 261 AH) compiled Sahih Muslim, the second most authentic hadith collection after Bukhari. While similar in methodology, Muslim’s compilation is more systematic in arrangement. He grouped narrations by topic and often presented multiple chains for the same hadith, allowing scholars to compare variations. The collection contains about 9,200 hadith (with repetitions), focusing on creed, worship, ethics, and social conduct. Muslim’s work is praised for its clarity and precision, making it easier for students to navigate. Together with Bukhari, Sahih Muslim forms the Sahihayn (“The Two Sahihs”), considered the most reliable sources of hadith. Commentaries such as Sharh al-Nawawi provide detailed explanations. Its role in Islamic jurisprudence is immense, influencing rulings across all Sunni schools of law. In academic circles, Muslim’s emphasis on multiple chains is seen as a hallmark of his scholarly rigor.
