লেখক Abu Dawud Sulayman ibn al-Ash‘ath
Abu Dawud Sulayman ibn al-Ash‘ath (d. 889 CE / 275 AH) compiled Sunan Abu Dawud, focusing primarily on hadith related to jurisprudence (fiqh). His collection contains around 4,800 hadith, carefully selected to provide practical guidance on legal matters such as prayer, zakat, marriage, divorce, and criminal law. Abu Dawud’s methodology was to include hadith that jurists could use, even if some were not at the highest level of authenticity, provided they were not fabricated. He often noted the reliability of narrations, giving scholars tools to assess them. This pragmatic approach made his work invaluable for Islamic law. Sunan Abu Dawud is widely studied in seminaries, especially by jurists seeking to derive rulings. Commentaries like Awn al-Ma‘bud expand on its meanings. Its influence is particularly strong in shaping legal discourse across Sunni schools.
